Ruler-Free Wound Measurement: Inside the Point-n-Capture Imaging Agent
product
How a phone camera replaces the ruler, tape, and fiducial sticker — and why automatic edge detection matters for healing trajectories and audit defense.
Rulers introduce variance. Two clinicians measuring the same wound with the same tape can disagree by 20% on area. Here's how computer vision replaces the ruler without adding hardware.
How Point-n-Capture works
Point your phone at the wound. The agent:
- Checks distance and angle in real time
- Detects the wound edge using a wound-specific segmentation model
- Calibrates scale from camera intrinsics — no sticker, no ArUco marker, no ruler in frame
- Returns length, width, and area in one capture

Why no fiducial marker
Stickers fall off, get contaminated, and require sterile handling. Marker-free imaging means you can measure a wound in a nursing home bed or a shoe-off exam room without opening a package.
Measurement consistency across visits
Because the model segments the wound the same way each visit, serial measurements are comparable. Those numbers feed the healing dashboard so stalled wounds surface before week four.
Audit defense
Every capture stores the original image, the detected edge overlay, and the computed dimensions. If a payer asks, you have the picture and the math.
